Overview
PUBG: Battlegrounds is a 2017 battle royale shooter developed by PUBG Corporation using Unreal Engine 4. It places up to 100 players on expansive maps, where they parachute in, scavenge for weapons and gear, and fight to be the last one—or team—standing. Matches feature a shrinking play zone and random air-drops of powerful loot, with options for first- or third-person perspectives.
PUBG skyrocketed in popularity, especially in its early access phase. Within months of release, it sold millions of copies, generated massive revenue, and set multiple records—becoming a defining title of the battle royale genre. It’s now free-to-play and available across PC, consoles, and mobile, where PUBG Mobile has amassed over a billion downloads and over $9 billion in revenue by 2022.
